Ginger Water Recipe With Lemon: What It Can and Cannot Do
Simmer sliced fresh ginger with water, add lemon, and drink it hot or cold. Here is the easy recipe, and what research does and does not say about ginger.
Ingredients
- 2 inchfresh ginger, thinly sliced, no need to peel if well washed
- 2 cupswater
- 1 tbsplemon juice
- 1 tsphoney, optional
Instructions
- Simmer. Add the sliced ginger and water to a small pot, bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer gently with a lid on.

- Strain. Pour the ginger water through a fine strainer into a jug or two mugs and discard the ginger slices.

- Finish. Stir in the lemon juice and honey if you are using it. Taste and add a little more lemon for brightness.

- Serve. Drink it warm, or let it cool and chill it in the fridge to serve over ice.

Notes
- A longer simmer gives a stronger, spicier drink and a shorter one is milder. Taste as you go.
- Keep chilled ginger water covered in the fridge at 40°F (4°C) or below, and do not leave it out for more than 2 hours (1 hour if it is above 90°F).
